Kuwait’s Anti-Smoking National Program will organinze next Tuesday an open day as well as a health exhibition at the main lobby of the Ministry of Health on the occasion of marking World No Tobacco Day.
Member of the Standing Anti-Smoking National Program Dr. Amal Al-Yahya said, in a statement today, that the ceremony focuses on youth and teenagers in order to prevent them in the future from getting accustomed to smoking as “they represent the mainstay of the Kuwaiti society, and the nation’s groundwork.”
She added that this open day was a good chance for holding directing meetings between anti-smoking committees and clinics in the health directorates, and the participants, noting that the exhibition includes setting up an outpatient clinic to examine visitors for free whether from the smokers or the non-smokers.
This medical examination will also include checking the hemoglobin rate in blood, besides sugar and cholestrol, and there will be a special device for examining lung functions, and carbon monoxide levels in blood for smokers followed by an evaluation made by specialized doctors, and handing over results to those examined on the spot, she made clear.
The organization of this day aims at attracting the employees of the Ministry of Health in particular, and smokers in general, to put into force the non-smoking law in the state public utilities as this will be the launching pad for reviving this law inside the offices of the Ministry of Health in what makes it a smoking-free environment.
This special day also aims at achieving a set of goals, foremost among them is activate the application of the decisions made within the World Health Organization (WHO) Framework Convention on Tobacco Control which had been signed by many world countries including the State of Kuwait.
It also designed to apply the local anti-smoking law issued in 1995, besides helping smokers give up smoking, and helping non-smokers protects themselves against passive smoking which is more dangerous than smoking itself, she said.
Finally, the open day will include a display of the publications issued by the Anti-Smoking National Program, and TV programs made in this respect, along with presenting gifts to the visitors of health exhibition.
