Alanna's Orphans & Seniors
All I want to do is make a difference in the lives of these thrown away seniors... It is my passion and my calling.
A red heart will be appliqued to each and every quilt to signify the love attached to the quilt and passed on to the child or senior citizen who will receive it.

Al-Qurain House (Martyr's House)
Photo taken from 360Dewan.com
The site of a bloody battle between the Kuwaitis and the Iraqis just before Liberation, Al-Qurain House is now a museum dedicated to those who laid their lives. A mounted Iraqi tank at the Jahra Gate roundabout at the end of Fahd Al-Salem Street is a reminder of the folly of war. Al-Qurain House is known to be the "symbol of Kuwaiti resistance." It now houses a museum built to commemorate all those who lost their lives in that battle. So if you're interested in reliving the horror of the battle and part of Kuwait's historical past, a visit to this fascinating museum is recommended! 360Dewan blog has a great post with more information regarding this historical site HERE.

Be Aware
he issue of mental illness is a social taboo, a topic people rarely address seriously in conversations. Therefore, people unfairly judge those with mental illness, calling them crazy, dangerous, or unstable. This is most often due to the fact that most people don't understand the true nature of mental illness and the fact that there are hundreds of different mental illness with very different symptoms. However, the discrimination might not always be intentional, it can cause the patient to:

Dickson House
Standing opposite Seif Palace, Dickson House, home of the first British political envoy, stands as a symbol of the strong political ties between Kuwait and Britain. Built in the early 1900s, the house was used as the headquarters of successive British political envoys appointed to Kuwait, beginning with Colonel Knox in 1904, with the last and arguably the best known resident being Colonel Harold Dickson who left it in 1935 to work in the new headquarters at the British Embassy. After retiring, Colonel Dickson and his wife Lady Violet went back to live in the house. The colonel passed away in 1959 and his wife, known to Kuwaitis as Umm Saud, remained living there until the 1990 invasion of Kuwait when she was evacuated to Britain, where she died shortly afterwards. Dickson House is now the property of the National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters, which has transformed it into a cultural center. The house was originally owned by a Kuwaiti merchant, a simple house comprising two floors overlooking the sea, with walls made of mud as was the case with all houses constructed here at the time. One of the most attractive features of the house was the elevated porch, which created relative coolness in rooms and reduced the summer heat. The second floor comprises ten rooms, and the house has three gates. The house was traditional in design and was later renovated by the British to take on a more colonial appearance. The largest amount of reconstruction work occurred in 1959 when the west wing collapsed, and this was an opportunity to expand several rooms in that area.

Green Club Q8
Green Club is formed by students and high school teachers in Kuwait. It is a student organization of volunteers who are willing to save the Earth. In other words, make the world a greener place. The green club shows the school, and the people here in Kuwait that there is more to it than what is happening. It is very rare to find people recycling and re-using. You see people litter and destroying habitats. Whether it's a tree, or an ant hole, we are willing to change that. Our aim is to go world-wide on this project, and to make Earth a better place. A greener place. If we do not take action now, we will die by our own actions.

K-Cats
The idea was born when the Club President Mrs. Sandra Al-Sumait contacted cat lovers through Facebook about forming a cat club as a first step towards bringing cat shows to Kuwait. K-Cats is the First Cat Club in Kuwait, (a sub club of Mecats: MECats.net). We are currently recruiting members locally and internationally. You do not need to own a pedigree cat in order to show with WCF as there are classes for House cats and the Arabian Mau (Kuwait street cats). We are not in this for the money. We are purely in love with our cats, care for the welfare of animals and raising awareness in our little country on how to care for cats and that every soul matters! K-Cats will be an extremely active club, which caters for everyone who has an interest in cats, from the potential pet owner to the most professional breeder. Apart from overseeing the welfare of the cats, the club will devote itself to bringing members together at a variety of social functions. These are structured to give members an opportunity to discuss their cats, but also to allow members to gather in a convivial social setting, the emphasis being placed on enjoyment.

K's Path
The Kuwait Society for the Protection of Animals and Their Habitat (K’S PATH) is a unique, grassroots organization founded in March of 2005. K’S PATH is an animal welfare organization with a mission to protect animals and their habitat. The organization operates a large sanctuary that houses farm animals, equine, and indigenous, smuggled and migratory wildlife. Within the sanctuary there is a companion animal shelter and adoption center that rescues over 2000 dogs and cats per year, with many of them successfully finding loving homes in and out of Kuwait. K’S PATH also works closely with government agencies such as the Environment Public Authority (EPA) and large corporations such as Kuwait Oil Company (KOC) to design and implement humane animal control programs along with wildlife and habitat protection programs.
In supporting K’S PATH, you will be helping to protect the many populations of animals residing in Kuwait and helping to preserve our struggling biodiversity. Supporting our collective work on these many issues is a great way to affect long-term change. We are seeing this change beginning to take place in a new program with KOC, designing and implementing the first humane animal control program in Kuwait. We have also begun a working relationship with the EPA to address the issues pertaining to illegally trafficked wildlife and the implementation of CITES regulations. We hope to continue to accomplish our goals through your support.

Kuwait Change
Climate Change Awareness Campaign
A National Awareness Campaign to instruct and guide young people on the concept of climate change, the risk it causes and the possible ways of reducing its impact. The campaign was launched on June 2009 and it consists of a group of young ambitious volunteers; who hope to initiate the importance of the environment to the Kuwaiti society. It is not only an expression of interest for the State of Kuwait towards the issues of climate change, but also a commitment to support global efforts to address this phenomenon. We are working to make Earth a safer place to live
Do you know what is 350? 350 is the most important number in the world, it's what scientists say is the safe upper limit for carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Three years ago, after leading climatologists observed rapid ice melt in the Arctic and other frightening signs of climate change, they issued a series of studies showing that the planet faced both human and natural disaster if atmospheric concentrations of CO2 remained above 350 parts per million.
The U.N.’s top climate scientist has now embraced this goal as necessary for stabilizing the planet and preventing complete disaster. You might be wondering now about the concentration level of carbon dioxide in Earth atmosphere, it has reached an unprecedented level of 390 parts per million and its rising daily. Now the trick is getting our leaders to pay attention and craft policies that will put the world on track to get to 350. Every one of us has a personal obligation to reduce his share of CO2 to earth atmosphere:
-Lets reduce the cutting of trees
-Lets reduce the use of cars
-Lets reduce the use of electricity
-Lets reduce our wastes on the planet

Sadu House
Sadu House is an artistic house and museum in Kuwait City, Kuwait located near the Kuwait National Museum. It was established in 1980 to protect the interests of the Bedouins and their ethnic handicrafts, Sadu weaving, which is an embroidery form in geometrical shapes hand woven by Bedouin people. The original house originally existed as a mud building in the early twentieth century but was destroyed during the 1936 Kuwaiti floods. By 1984, Sadu House had registered 300 Bedouin women, producing about seventy items every week. A major tourist attraction in Kuwait City, Sadu House has several chambers each decorated with pottered motifs of houses, mosques etc. Another section has been renovated into Al-Baraha that is mainly a roofed playground for the children. If you want to spend a quality time with your loved ones then just relax in the Abu Adnan cafe of the Sadu House of Kuwait. The cafe is beautifully decorated with wooden benches and colorful woven pieces.
